WellEra Bangkok Unveils a THB-29 Billion Investment in Wellness Complex Driving Thailand Towards Becoming a Wellness Hub of the World
Developed by BDMS, with Capella Hotel Group as its residential partner, WellEra integrates wellness, residential living, hospitality and lifestyle into a pioneering ecosystem designed to support everyday well-being. WellEra marks the arrival of a new era of living well.
Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS), has unveiled WellEra, marking a new chapter on the global stage. Representing an investment of more than 29 billion baht in a prime location of Bangkok’s Lumpini district, WellEra is a Wellness-Integrated Ecosystem developed under the concept ‘THE DNA OF WORLD WELL-LIVING’. The project is envisioned as a wellness complex that extends BDMS’s expertise in Healthcare and Scientific Wellness into an integrated ecosystem designed to make healthy living a natural part of everyday life. Seamlessly combining scientific wellness, technology, design, Thai identity and world-class hospitality, WellEra creates an environment that supports long-term health, well-being and quality of life. The WellEra ecosystem comprises four key components: BDMS Wellness Clinic, Wellness Residence, Urban Wellness Retreat and Lifestyle Retail. As part of the development, the residential component will be co-developed in partnership with Capella Hotel Group. Its Capella Residences is celebrated for exceptional refined living and meaningful moments. WellEra is scheduled to open fully in 2030.
Dr. Poramaporn Prasarttong-Osoth, Chairperson of the Executive Committee and President Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS), said, For more than five decades, BDMS has earned the trust of clients from Thailand and around the world as a healthcare organisation that combines medical commitment, healthcare innovation and international standards of care to continuously support people’s quality of life. Today, BDMS is taking another step forward from its role as a healthcare provider to helping shape the future of health and quality of life for people in the long term. With a vision that recognises global changes, including ageing populations, the growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and people’s increasing desire for healthy longevity, BDMS has continuously laid the foundation for Preventive Medicine and Personalized Healthcare long before ‘Wellness’ became a global megatrend. Beginning with RoyalLife Wellness Clinic within its hospital network, the organisation later pioneered Scientific Wellness through BDMS Wellness Clinic and has now extended that journey through WellEra. This marks an important milestone in creating an environment that supports well-being across multiple dimensions of life, so that well-being is no longer merely a goal, but a way of life that can be realised every day. This is founded on the belief that the true value of medicine lies not only in treating disease, but also in preventive healthcare, enabling people to stay healthy, live to their full potential and enjoy a good quality of life at every stage of life.
“BDMS is moving forward with the development of WellEra with an investment of more than 29 billion baht to create a new model of a Wellness-Integrated Ecosystem that seamlessly brings together health, medicine, science, technology and lifestyle under the concept ‘THE DNA OF WORLD WELL-LIVING’. This is a place where good health is no longer merely a goal, but one that responds to the growing global demand for a new model of living in which health, quality of life and healthy longevity can coexist. The project reinforces Thailand’s position as one of the world’s important medical destinations, while highlighting the country’s potential to become an international wellness hub, supported by an environment conducive to quality of life and healthcare services that meet international standards. Located in the heart of Lumpini, one of Bangkok’s most strategic districts, WellEra brings together urban connectivity, green spaces, quality of life and enduring liveability. The project also integrates Scientific Wellness and Preventive Medicine into multiple dimensions of daily life, enabling Healthspan; the ability to live longer in good health; to become a genuine part of everyday well-living.”
“We believe WellEra reflects an important milestone in evolving from the role of healthcare provider to helping shape the future of living for people in the long term. It is founded on the belief that the factors that determine people’s health are not found solely within healthcare systems, but within every element of daily life. At the same time, this project represents another important opportunity to build upon Thailand’s strengths on the global stage as a destination for health and sustainable quality of life.” Dr. Poramaporn added.
Dr. Tanupol Virunhagarun, Chief Executive Officer of BDMS Wellness Group, Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS), said: “Globally, people have an average lifespan of 71.4 years, but a healthspan of only 61.9 years, while Thais have an average lifespan of approximately 75.3 years and a healthspan of 65.8 years. These figures reflect that many people spend more than the last 10 years of their lives living with illness and relying on healthcare systems. At the same time, scientific evidence has demonstrated that lifestyle behaviours and surrounding environments play a role in determining health that is no less important than genetics. This has driven a global shift from Reactive Healthcare to Proactive Healthcare and Scientific Wellness, which aims to help people live longer while maintaining good health. This trend not only reflects a transition towards a society that places greater importance on healthy longevity, but also serves as one of the key drivers supporting the vision of ‘Wellness Hub Thailand: The Land of Life’, which aims to position Thailand as a global Wellness Hub. Today, the Global Wellness Economy is valued at more than US$6.8 trillion and is projected to reach US$9.8 trillion by 2029. Thailand is emerging as one of the key markets within the global wellness economy, with a market value exceeding US$42.7 billion, or approximately 1.4 trillion baht. Key growth drivers include Wellness Tourism, which has grown by 36.4%, and Wellness Real Estate, which has expanded by 22.9%, making it one of the fastest-growing sectors. These trends demonstrate that people around the world are no longer seeking longevity alone, but are increasingly looking for living ecosystems designed to support quality of life alongside long-term health. They also reflect Thailand’s potential to build on its strengths in healthcare services, tourism, Thai hospitality, Thai cuisine and traditional Thai medicine to become a regional Wellness Hub. This is aligned with the Government’s policy to position Thailand as a Medical & Wellness Hub and its ambition to expand the health economy to more than 1.98 trillion baht, representing over 11% of national GDP in the future.”
Dr. Tanupol added “The Wellness-Integrated Ecosystem concept, which places health at the centre of every dimension of WellEra, is founded upon BDMS’s Scientific Wellness approach. It seamlessly connects medical knowledge, science, technology, lifestyle and nature, while integrating the principles of Scientific Wellness and Preventive Medicine into everyday living. The objective is to ensure that good health is no longer something experienced only within healthcare facilities, but becomes a genuine part of daily life. The WellEra Ecosystem comprises four key components that are interconnected and mutually supportive within a single ecosystem: Branded Residence: wellness-focused residences that combine world-class service standards with wellness living. Wellness Clinic: a preventive healthcare clinic that helps people better understand their health, develop appropriate wellness blueprint and build behaviours that support long-term well-being. Urban Wellness Retreat: a wellness retreat designed for rest, well-being and balanced living. Lifestyle Retail: retail and lifestyle spaces designed for everyday living, social interaction and the creation of a quality community. Each component has been designed to work seamlessly together to support health, quality of life and healthy longevity in the long term. “WellEra is intended to serve as a model for wellness-focused developments and contribute to Thailand’s journey towards becoming a Wellness City, with the ultimate goal of becoming a Wellness Country.”
WellEra is also creating a new driving force for residential living by shifting the perspective from investing in buildings as physical assets to investing in an ecosystem that delivers high wellness value. The project integrates preventive healthcare infrastructure into everyday living, creating an environment where health support becomes a continuous part of daily life. In the past, people may have chosen their homes based on location, convenience or luxury. In the future, people will increasingly choose where they live based on a development’s ability to support health, quality of life and healthy longevity. Drawing on more than two decades of pioneering experience in Preventive Medicine and Scientific Wellness, as well as extensive experience caring for people over the years, BDMS Wellness Clinic has transformed its medical expertise, health science knowledge and data-driven insights into the ‘BDMS Wellness Clinic 6S+ Strategy: The Science of Living Well’. Derived from the principles of Scientific Wellness and Lifestyle Medicine, the framework is built around six key dimensions: Sleep, Strong, Soul, Smart, Social and Span. These six dimensions serve as the foundation for designing lifestyle experiences that promote well-being, from quality sleep and physical and mental well-being, to the use of technology to support daily living, meaningful social interaction, and healthy longevity with strength and well-being.
Dr. Tanupol explained that this approach is founded on scientific evidence showing that human health is determined not only by genetics or healthcare alone, but is also significantly influenced by the environments and lifestyles people experience in their daily lives. Particularly, the home is where people spend more than one-third of their lives. For this reason, WellEra has adopted leading international building standards as the foundation for the design and development of the project. These include LEED Gold, which focuses on environmental sustainability; Fitwel 3-Star, which promotes the well-being of building users; and WELL Platinum, the highest level of wellness certification developed from medical and scientific knowledge to assess how a designed environment can positively influence residents’ health, quality of life and long-term well-being.
